FIRST DAY BACK

Above is the result of my first day back at college. I call the piece Romance and chose the images and got the idea after thinking about how we are affected by film and the media. I find it interesting how the black and white images remind us of the term ' OLD ROMANTIC' which is often how you are reffed to if you by flowers or a present for your partner or take them out for a nice meal or something similar. The piece comments on how times have changed. Why are we reminded of romance when we see the black and white pictures but not the colour image? a kiss after all is a romantic gesture as is steering into each others eyes (right) or holding each other (left). It is not unusual to See two female kissing in this day and age a homosexual romance is no different to a romance had by heterosexuals. The media tell us so much about Britney and about Madonna which is why when this happened people were so shocked. the medias images often create this feeling, but they didn't always. You could say that the pictures represent a/their generation. If we were only shown the old classic black and white films filled with romance and well spoken people how would have we reacted to seeing the middle image and how differently would we act generally? The black and white pictures create a very idealistic feeling all though the actions from the middle picture are almost inevitable. I think this work makes us a-wear of the idea that we think and see things through the eyes the media gave us.
