.A round up of what i have been up to over the second year.

MADE A BOOK

I made my first book using blurb.com. The website was recommended by a friend on the course. The soft wear is all free and very easy to use. I loved the process of making the book, i got to use new soft wear and i got to make all the decisions. The book is a selection of photos i took at a Foreign Bird sale organised by my Dad.

I have been Kean to capture such an event since i came across some pictures in a magazine i used to get called +1. It has stopped now but still has a website with the back issues. The Photographers name is Christopher Brazel, he takes photos of bmxing and generally anything that looks interesting. It seems his photos are of things that he and us don't see everyday. His photographic style reminds me of travel photography. They are on here http://www.plus1mag.com/up-content/themes/plus1mag/pdfs/issue14.pdfcontent/themes/plus1mag/pdfs/issue14.pdf.plus1mag.com/up-content/themes/plus1mag/pdfs/issue14.pdfcontent/themes/plus1mag/pdfs/issue14.pdf and are on pages 47-49. I think they are great documentation of an event and also a small culture. I particularly like the photos of the people with their birds says a lot about their passion and pride to be doing what they are doing. Reminds me of when i was doing GCSE art and i took photos of people with their sheds.

DESIGNED A BUSINESS CARD

This is an example of a photo i took for a make up artist. I learnt a lot by doing this shoot because the lighting was SO bad. I think the picture above is too light may have been because of the flash. The purpose of the photos i was taking were for a business card and some maybe for a makeup portfolio.

The image above was what we decided to go with. I put it on photo shop and edited it a bit. I changed this like contrast and also created a black gradient to put over the hair so that we could add white text. I love the colours, the pinks and fleshy tones make it seem very fresh...reminds me of the saying fresh faced.

ALBUM ARTWORK

I am friends with a guy who produces music for people. He happens to have taken a shine to a local band and has designed their website and is kind of managing them a bit. He needed some artwork for their single and for the website. I had a think of what i could do for an indie/rock/pop band and thought about concerts/gigs i had been to. It wasn't long ago i went to see Beyonce which is why she sprung to mind first. I then rememberd this photo i took on the way back from the show. The photo is of my girlfriends ripped tights when we were on the tube back to the hotel. It took me a while to find it and when i did it seemed to be just right. I edited it a bit on photo shop as it was very dark. I remember thinking at the time this would make a good album cover. It is gritty, dark and i guess i feel people can relate to it. Due to it not being set up it could be anyone anywhere. I like the fact it looks like the end of a good night which is just fitting for a live band.

DJING A CHARITY EVENT

I offered to dj a charity event for my friend Harriot. She has entered a modeling competition involving heart FM so i guess a charity event for their charity must look really good. It was in her local pub called the Otter. I had to play charts stuff which was interesting and a bit of a different experience. I used all my own equipment which was great because that's why i have it all...not just to practice on but the speakers filled the pub really well and everything went fine. We raised about £300 which was brilliant.

BLOG

I have started a blog which is more to do with this last term. I like having a blog because it is sometimes just nice to have your thoughts on things on a screen rather than just scribbled down in a book. It has helped me log information and show people what i do and why i do it.

LARAS FILM

My sister is on a film course and is regularly filming for it. I often help her with ideas for films. I like juxtaposing different ages against one another and you can see that in my work. At the point when she needed help deciding on an idea i was doing about b-movies which lead me into watching grind house trailers ect. Me and my sister sat down and tried to come up with something and eventually did. The idea for the film ends up being a female character who changes genre/style as the conventions change. She starts off as a grind house character working in a bar. She finds herself in a situation where a male character is trying to get her to bend over. They argue and because she is a grind house female exploitation styled character she punches him and he leaves. She then goes home and on the way is raped. The female character then turns into what is known as the last girl when she is at home on her own therefore genre changes to horror. She then turns noir when she wants to get her own back.

MORE MAKEUP PHOTOS

More recently i have taken some more makeup photos for a makeup artists portfolio. My sister was the model this time and was made up to look like a gaiesher. The other girl was made up to look like a pin up girl.
