MACHETE

Machete is a fake trailer made by Robert Rodriguez who made Planet Terror and Sin City. This wasn't originally going to be made into a film but although it started as a fake trailer it has some narrative which gave it the possibilty. I love the style of the film 'Grindhouse' which is what they called cinemas that used to show old exploitation films. The cinemas were originally know as bump and grind houses, places where men could go and see a sleazy dance show. Once they were turned into cinemas they could instead go and see often sleazy, gorey, low budget films that were too risky to put in proper cinemas.

They are now recognised as a style almost as a genre. You will notice the style because of the scratches and crackles on the film reel, the amature acting and poor special effects. The films often exploite women showing them half naked whilst carrying out murders and revenge. They are also often about or contain something completely ridiculous similar to b-movies from the 40's. I'm not completly sure of the story line for this film. I dont think the story line contains a lot of female exploitation although at one point you do see the two naked women in the pool with him. For me i am excited about spotting the grindhouse style conventions and seeing how the director uses them in the narrative.
